Carrick on Shannon Rowing Club invites your club to participate in the 2009 Head of the Shannon, which will take place in Carrick on Shannon on the 7th of February 2009. There will be two races, at 11.00 am and 2.30 pm, over a course of exactly 5,000m.

Head of the Shannon Announcement

The water levels on the Northern part of the River Shannon have seen uprecedentedly quick rises over the past 2 weeks to the extent that the water has now reached the front door of the boathouse in Carrick on Shannon, a rise of approximately 3 feet above normal water levels. There are also further wintry showers promised over the coming 48 hours thus potentially increasing the water levels even further and with a severe frost promised for Friday night / Saturday it will make making driving conditions hazardous. Accordingly we have decided that in the interest of safety we must regrettably cancel the Head scheduled for this Saturday. Sincerest apologies to all those who had intended on travelling. A sincere thank you to all of those clubs who entered, helping make it the biggest ever Head of the River to be held in the town and we hope that you will return next year when hopefully conditions will be more favourable.

We will be trying to make contact with as many people as possible today also.
